Global Vigils Will Celebrate Vanunu's Freedom People around the world are planning vigils on April 21, the scheduled day of Mordechai Vanunu's release, to celebrate his freedom.
Are you interested in having a vigil in your city? Please call 520-323-8697 or email freevanunu@mindspring.com to let us know, and to provide us with a contact phone number or email address. People who do not have Israeli embassies and consulates in their town plan to be present in other public locations. Several Women in Black vigils have already contacted us to say they are planning a special vigil to celebrate Mordechai's release. If Israel does not do the right thing and release him without condition or restriction, as befits a democratic nation, these vigils will also raise the call for his unconditional freedom.
The U.S. Campaign to Free Mordechai Vanunu hopes to see vigils in all of the U.S. cities where Israel has a diplomatic office. There are already vigils planned at Israel's Embassy in Washington, D.C. and in San Francisco. If you live in or near Atlanta, Boston, Chicago, Houston, Los Angeles, Miami, New York or Philadelphia and are part of a group that would be interested in organizing a vigil at Israel's local Consulate in one of those cities, please contact the U.S. campaign as soon as possible. Readers in other countries who wish to plan a vigil are also asked to contact us so we can list your vigils in international campaign media outreach and press releases. As the date gets closer, we will post a list of all the international vigils we know about on our website at www.nonviolence.org/vanunu . |
