Dear Marcus
Thank you very much for this letter.
I think you can send it to many more people, like Israeli Embassies all over the world,
to all the ministers in Gov' here. Also to Knesset members.
Best wishes.

*to all my friends: you can spread it and send it to the Israel authorities too. Thank you.

Subject: Universal Declaration of Human Rights

Dear Ophir Paz-Pines, Minister for the Interior,

The Universal Declaration of Human Rights adopted by the UN in 1948 was ratified by Israel, but I am puzzled as to why does a democracy such as Israel violate so many of the Articles they agreed to uphold?

Article 9 states: "No one shall be subjected to arbitrary arrest, detention or exile", yet on Christmas Eve 2004, Mordechai Vanunu was arrested in a taxi attempting to travel the few miles from Jerusalem to Bethlehem to attend mass at the Church of The Nativity. Instead, he was hauled into jail and charged with: "attempting to leave the country."

On November 18, 2005, Vanunu was: "arrested when he went to see the Aram check point, to see the Apartheid Wall; the Palestinian ghettos."

Article 13-2: "Everyone has the right to leave any country, including his own."
The Israeli government refuses to allow Vanunu to leave claiming he still has a secret he has yet to tell about the underground WMD program in the Negev. Vanunu has not set foot into the Dimona for 20 years, what could he possibly know about what is underground there now?
That aging plutonium plant has yet to allow IAEA inspectors in, and that makes me wonder what's the big secret Israel is so worried will come out?

Article 18: "Everyone has the right to freedom of thought, conscience, and religion: this right includes freedom to change his religion."
As a Christian I think Vanunu's Christian conversion was construed by the Israeli government as treason against the state and contributed to his being sentenced to more years than any murderer in Israel has ever served.

Many politicians 'forget' their words, I hope you are not like them and will do something to see justice be done: free Vanunu and the Israeli government will also win: Great PR! Thank you.
